Random ramblings

Painting: We started and finished painting the hall and laundry room last weekend. Woohoo! The hall was yellow, and now it's cream. The laundry room was lemony-white, and now it's cream. They both look much better. Sunday afternoon, we both decided that we're getting burnt-out on painting though. We've been at it for over a month now, and we're just ready to be finished! What's left? The guest bedroom, the study, the guest bathroom, ALL of the closets, and the garage. Maybe we'll get started on one of those this weekend, but it's going to be hard with the gospel meeting at church going on too. Oh well, I'm looking forward to the meeting, and it will be a good break from what's becoming our normal weekend routine.

Other House-Related Stuff: Travis got started lining some of our kitchen cabinets on Monday, so I'm excited about that. Once they are all lined, I'm going to start moving some of my kitchen stuff over there. I've got so much that I could probably have enough at both places to make do for a while. We also met some of our neighbors Friday night. They were really nice and seemed to be pretty close to our age, so it'll be fun to get to know them better!

Work: Travis has a 3-day week this week. He had Monday off for President's Day, and Friday is his normal off day. I have my normal 3-day week too, except our off days are totally different. Go figure. Work has been fine so far this week....nothing too exciting, but nothing bad either. Hopefully tomorrow will be a good day too.

Weddings: Yesterday, I ordered my bridesmaids dress for Alisha and Tyler's wedding! Only 154 days to go :) Now it's time to get started planning the bachelorette party of the century! :)

Well, I feel like my blog posts are getting really boring, but we really haven't done too much that's very exciting lately. Our lives have mainly been working and painting since we bought the house. When we finally get finished, maybe we'll have social lives again. I can't wait to have people over at our house....that'll be so much fun! We did go out to eat with Matt and Maggie on Saturday night, but that's about the first fun thing we've done all month. Oh well. I just keep reminding myself how blessed we are. Good health, family, friends, jobs, etc. We have so much to be thankful for! :)

Another week...another update...

I cannot believe we're already over halfway through February! 2011 is going by so fast. Travis and I have been homeowners for over a month now...that's just crazy. No, we still haven't moved in. Yes, we're still painting. Haha :)

One day, the painting will end.

Possibly not until next February, but it will end.

Seriously, though, we are making good progress. The dining room is completely finished, and the living room is almost there. We've got to roll it a second time, and it will be done. It looks awesome! It's a darker shade of beige than the dining room, and it looks great with our new furniture. Everything is coming together! Next up, we'll paint the hallway and laundry room, and after that, the guest bedroom, study, and guest bathroom. Finally, we'll paint (to satisfy the OCD in my husband) all the closets and the garage. Whew. My original hope to move in by the end of February seems pretty unrealistic now, but no worries. Maybe by the middle of March??

This past weekend, we got a wonderful break from all the painting when we went to Trussville to celebrate my favorite sister's birthday. We worked on taxes for part of the time we were there. Isn't that sad that doing taxes was a nice break? :) Mom made some awesome BBQ in her new crockpot along with the normal fixins like potato salad and coleslaw. Made me wish summer would hurry up and get here!

We had a low-key Valentine's Day on Monday night. I guess this is the 4th Valentine's Day we've been married (crazy!), and we usually decide to cook supper together rather than go out to eat with everyone and their brother. Last year we made Baked Salmon, but this year we decided to try something a little different. Everyone probably knows that Travis LOVES seafood. Lobster, crab, shrimp....all of it. Well, I found a recipe called Lobster Colorado that involves lobster, steak, bacon, and lots of butter. Sounded right up his alley, and it was! It turned out really good, especially the lobster part. We also had Texas Toast and salad to go along with it. It was a quick and easy supper to fix, which was great considering the fact that I didn't get home from work until about 7 PM.

Unless you've been living under a rock, you've probably heard about the moron who poisoned the trees at Toomer's Corner in Auburn. Apparently, they've already found and arrested the guy who did it. Good. I just can't believe someone would do something like that. It definitely made me mad when I heard about it, and I hope things don't escalate from here. It's one thing to have a heated rivalry, but it's another thing to let it get out of control and start doing stuff like that. I hope both Alabama and Auburn fans will act classy about this and not let it go any further. And I hope the guy who did it won't ever be allowed on either campus ever again.

"Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay," says the Lord. Therefore, if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. " ~Romans 12:17-21

That's all for today! Have a wonderful rest of your week :)

Go away, snow!

I guess the groundhog lied, didn't he? No early spring yet! Last night we got more snow and ice around here. Not sure how much, but it looks like a couple of inches at least. Schools are closed again, and the Arsenal delayed its opening by 2 hours. Yay for Travis getting to sleep late! It's not supposed to warm up very much today, but I hope it will melt before I have to go to work tomorrow.

Last weekend, we worked over at our house pretty much all Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday afternoon. We got the painting in the kitchen finished up, so that's good. Mom came up Saturday afternoon, and she helped me decide on the rest of the colors for the other rooms, so that was huge progress. Thanks, Mom! :) Our living room furniture got delivered, and we love it. We might be doing things backwards to be painting the living room AFTER the furniture is in there, but at least we were able to pick out a color that matches well. Saturday night, we started painting the dining room. It's going to be a really pretty beige color. I didn't want it to be anything too dark since the room doesn't have any windows. We did the cut-in a second time on Sunday afternoon, and Travis rolled the walls once Monday night. We're hoping to roll them a second time tonight, and then the dining room will be pretty much complete! Next up is the living room and foyer....that's gonna take a while...

This weekend, we're heading to my parents' house to celebrate Jenn's birthday. Her birthday isn't actually until next week, but we'll celebrate a little bit early I guess. I picked out her birthday present yesterday, so hopefully she'll like it :)

Today sounds like it's going to be a good day to stay inside. I may head to the gym this afternoon when it warms up a little, but other than that, I'm going to just stay here. Plenty to do without getting out! :)

Scratch that...we just found out the Arsenal is closed today. Travis gets a long weekend! I guess we may go over to our house (if we can get there) and do some extra painting :)

Yipee!! :)

All mixed up

So far this week, that's what I've been. And, no, it's not from breathing paint fumes almost every day at our house :)

Instead of my usual Monday, Tuesday, Friday work days, this week I worked Monday and I'm working tomorrow and Friday (5:30 to 2). That doesn't sound like a big deal (it's just one day different), but I've got in such a routine on my usual off-days that it's really gotten me mixed up on what day it is! I think I prefer getting 2 of the 3 days over with at the beginning of the week, but at least I didn't have to work a late night on Tuesday I guess. Every 4th week, I'll work Monday, Thursday, Friday instead of my normal days. Don't try to figure it out...Travis can't even remember when I work.

Update on the painting project: The master bedroom and bathroom are finished...COMPLETELY!! :) I'm really, really, really happy with the way the colors turned out. Now, we just have to get the outlet covers back on and do a little cleaning, and those rooms will be ready for our stuff! We've also got the kitchen almost finished. We did the cut-in twice this weekend (first coat Saturday and second coat Sunday), and then I rolled the walls for the first coat last night. We'll need to do a second coat, I'm sure, but I think we might get away with just one gallon of paint. Yay! Now I have to say...it's pretty green. It's a lot of green! But, I do like the color, and I think once we get the fridge and stove back in place and hang curtains and pictures on the walls, it won't be so overpowering...I hope :) This Saturday, we're getting our living room furniture delivered, so I'm super excited about that! I'm afraid it's going to be hard to get Travis up out of the recliner to paint once he sits in it cause it's so comfortable :)

This weekend was like a little taste of spring. I can't wait for warmer weather! I feel like I'm just a happier person when it's nice outside. Apparently the groundhog didn't see his shadow this morning, so maybe spring is just around the corner...

I guess that's enough rambling for today. One of these days, I'll take some pictures of our painting progess so you can see how it's going. Hope you're having a great week so far! And happy birthday this past Monday to you, Gran! I love you and hope you had a wonderful day :)
