Fourth of July: Fun weekend!

This year, for the 4th of July, we spent the long weekend with my parents at Smith Lake. It had been a while since we'd been there for the 4th (apparently 3 years), so it was good to be there again for the holiday. We went Friday after I got off work and stayed until Monday afternoon. We were pretty much bums the whole time...ate some GREAT food, went on a pontoon ride, swam, made homemade ice cream, etc. It was a really fun weekend! Here are some pictures that I took from my camera. Dad has some better ones on his camera, but I haven't gotten those from him yet...

Too many trees to see our lake house...hah

Here comes Miss Bo ready for the boat ride!

Bo was the sea captain for the afternoon...

...until she got scared of the rough water!

Poor Bo!

She finally came out again to be social!

But then she had to hide again later...

Travis with the sunscreen in his lap but not on his skin...silly boy!

When we got home Monday night, we had just enough time to eat supper and get ready to watch fireworks. We weren't planning to go to Bridge Street, so we ended up just sitting in our backyard and watching the neighbors' fireworks. It seemed like everyone but us was shooting them!! It was crazy, and they were big fireworks too! We'll have to remember that for next year...

Hope you had a safe and fun 4th too! :)

Time for an update...

My blog got a facelift! What do you think? I get bored when I keep the same background for too long, so I decided to play around with it this morning :)

Travis had a fun weekend with the guys at the lake. He says they played lots of Settlers of Catan (a board game that's kinda like Risk I think), went swimming, did a little fishing, and went tubing behind the jet ski. They even got the old pontoon cranked...I was impressed! He got home Monday night around 6:30 with all four limbs and no broken bones or sunburn (even though he didn't use the sunscreen I sent with him....surprise, surprise!). I think he was glad to get back to "orderly" living...he must have forgotten what it was like to live with a bunch of guys...haha! Not quite as neat as we keep it around here, I'd guess :)

I had to work late Monday night and last night. Monday night I didn't get home until 10:15!!! It was crazy. Usually the late people get to leave by 7:00 or 7:30 most of the time, so this was pretty unusual. When I got home, Travis was back from the lake and I saw these sitting on the kitchen table:

I love them! I'm not really big on roses, but these are so pretty! He made a special trip to the store to get them after he got home Monday night and saw that I was still at work....what a thoughtful guy :)

Then, last night I didn't get home until 9:00, and Travis waited on me to eat supper. He fixed shrimp, salad, and some sweet tea to go with it. I was starving by that point, so I was glad to get some food in my stomach. He's racking up the brownie points this week :)

By the way, he also went grocery shopping for me yesterday. I made the list for him and gathered all the coupons he'd need so he wouldn't have to take my pink coupon binder with him...haha. He even got rainchecks on the stuff Publix was out of for me!

Ok, enough bragging on him. He's awesome...end of story.

He works today and tomorrow, and then Friday is his off day, so we'll actually have a Friday off together (I'm off the rest of this week). Saturday, we're going to watch the Braves play in Atlanta, and I'm really excited about that. I think the last Braves game I went to was probably back when I was in middle school or junior high! Tyler and Alisha and a few other friends are going too.

Usually around this time in August, we're packing our things up to head back to Tuscaloosa, but not this year. I thought it might feel weird, but it hasn't yet. Maybe we're already adjusted to the working routine. I KNOW it'll feel weird when we watch the first Bama game on TV instead of being there, but oh well. We'll go to a couple of games this season hopefully :)

Football season will be here soon....yay!!

Looking forward to the weekend...

This weekend is going to be full of fun things! This afternoon, Travis is leaving for the lake house to spend a few days with the guys. I think there are going to be 6 guys going (including him), so he's really looking forward to that. He's supposed to come back sometime Tuesday I think. Yesterday I spent all morning baking (one of my favorite things to do!) to send some desserts with him. I made peanut butter cookies, chocolate and white chocolate chip cookies, rice krispy treats, strawberry cupcakes, and german chocolate cupcakes. Whew! It literally took over 4 hours to do all that, but it was fun! I hope it all gets eaten b/c I don't need to be eating any of it if it gets brought home :)

Tonight is the Grant cousins' sleepover here at Baugay's, so I'm looking forward to that. Unfortunately, Travis will have to miss it, but hopefully he can come next time. I was supposed to work today (and thus, supposed to get up early), but they were apparently overstaffed today so I didn't have to come in. So...I got to sleep later than I thought I would be able to, and hopefully I will be able to stay up past 9:30 tonight...haha :)

Tomorrow afternoon is Laura and Clayton's wedding in Arab. Travis is going to meet me there. Laura is my best friend from nursing school, and I'm glad that she and Clayton will be living fairly close by so that we can get together more often (hopefully!).

Next week, I work Monday and Tuesday 11 AM to close (hopefully not too late). Travis took this Monday and Tuesday off for the lake trip, and he'll work Wednesday and Thursday. Then, we both have next Friday off (first time in FOREVER that we'll have a Friday off together!). Next Saturday we are planning to go to a Braves game in Atlanta with Tyler, Alisha and a few other friends...yay! :)

Well, I'm about to run to Kohls to spend my $10 in Kohl's cash that expires soon. Good thing it's tax-free weekend!

Hope you all have a great weekend too :)

Best week of the semester :)

This really has been the best week of the semester so far. Travis and I have spent an entire week together, and we still have 2 more days before he has to go back to t-town! I've thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.

Last Friday, he drove up to Baugay's from Tuscaloosa, and due to several problems on the interstate (wrecks and sinkholes), it ended up taking him 3 1/2 hours instead of 2 1/2. So, we ended up missing supper at the Hesters' house unfortunately. Instead, we ended up cooking a frozen pizza and going to Publix for groceries. Fun, fun!

Saturday, we did some cleaning around the apartment before eating supper with Travis's family (minus Emily, who is in Europe!) and Tyler's family that night. We had never met Tyler's parents or his little sister before, so it was great to meet them and spend the evening together!

Sunday, we went to church and ate lunch with Travis's family. After lunch, we went to two CVS's looking for deodorant deals. I finally found the kind I was looking for at the CVS on Hughes, so I got 6 for about 40 cents each! Sunday night, Andrew and Gary came over and we ate pizza and hung out.

Monday and Tuesday, Travis and I spent a good bit of both days painting the basement at his mom's house. We had fun with her, Alisha, and Tyler, and I think I got a lot better at painting by the end of it all. The basement really looks good! Monday night, I ate the best pizza I've ever had..seriously. It was from Papa Murphy's, which I'd never heard of before, but we're definitely going to have to go there again soon. They make the pizza in front of you, and then you take it home and cook it in the oven. It was awesome! Wow, didn't realize I'd eaten so much pizza over the break! Oops :)

We also got a new tag for my car...I'm now officially a 47er :)

Wednesday, we spent most of the afternoon working on taxes (not fun!). We figured out that we should be getting almost $400 back, so yay for that! Guess that will be going towards the new car and/or future house funds like the rest of our money :)

Yesterday and today, we went our separate ways. Travis went on a canoe trip with Alan and Gary up at Shoals Creek, and he came back looking like a lobster. One day, I'll convince him that sunscreen is a good thing. One day. They had fun though and didn't freeze or starve, so that was a bonus.

I headed down to Smith Lake to hang out with my parents since they were going to be there for a couple of days. I can't believe it had been over a month since I'd seen them last! We started painting the screened porch today, and it looks a lot better already. Hopefully next time we go to the lake we can stay longer. The weather was absolutely perfect today!

Apparently, the 2 P's of spring break this year were pizza and painting :)

Got some bad news tonight...Granny was taken to the hospital this morning in Birmingham and is in ICU right now. Her heart stopped a few times while she was in the ER, and she's getting a pacemaker put in on Monday. That's about all I know right now. Mom and Dad were heading there tonight to see her...they left the lake house early when they found out late this afternoon. Hopefully the pacemaker will get her heart working right again and she'll be able to go home!

Tomorrow night, Matt and Maggie are coming over for supper, so we're excited about that. I love having people over!

Thanks for listening to my ramblings!

Our Super Fun Break So Far

Well, it's been a month since I updated this blog last. I'll blame that on being entirely way too busy for the last 2 weeks of school and then being entirely way too lazy for the past two weeks. We are really enjoying our summer break so far! We successfully got everything in our apartment packed up and stored away in storage (thanks to the help of our friends, Ashley, Seth, and Paul....and my mom). We also got all of the food planned and bought for Aaron's bachelor party. Travis and the guys had a lot of fun...and ate pretty good too while they were there!

Aaron and Emily's wedding went off without a hitch. Everything was beautiful, and I got some pretty good pictures while we were there. It'll be great to have another married couple our age in t-town for the upcoming year!

I went to work at the hospital for one day last week (only for a few hours). I had to take some tests online and get caught up on things since I'd been there last August. I may not really start work until after we get back from the beach next week (but there's a small chance I may work this Thursday or Friday or both).

We've gotten summer memberships at Anytime Fitness, which is just a hop, skip, and a jump away from Baugay's. We worked out almost every day last week, and we're enjoying getting in shape together (or trying to anyway!).

This weekend we spent time with my family at Smith Lake. It rained almost the entire weekend, but we still had a blast! We made homemade ice cream (which I've decided after completely leaving one ingredient out of the recipe that it's impossible to really mess homemade ice cream up), played Yatzee, watched Madagascar and Bedtime Stories, and ate some really great food. I hope we'll get to go back to the lake several more times before the summer's over.

This week we have a lot of little things to take care of. I'm making ravioli for one of our dinners at the beach, so I have to get all of the ingredients for that sometime before we leave. We'll also be making more homemade ice cream...yum! Travis also has to get his driver's license renewed, and I have to get a TB skin test done at the hospital.

We're leaving for Fripp Island this Saturday morning. Leaving from Huntsville instead of Birmingham adds an extra hour or two onto the total drive, so it may take us about 9 hours to get there! Next week is going to be so much fun! We'll be there until the following Saturday (June 6th), so we also get to celebrate Travis's 23rd birthday while we're there. Yay! Let the fun continue!! :)

Hurry up, spring break!

I can't believe this will be my last spring break ever. This time next year, I'll be graduated and probably working somewhere in town. Travis might have to spend next spring break by himself! That means I want to take full advantage of this year's. We don't have any big plans, but we may go to the lake for a few days (if the weather is nice). Other than that, we'll probably just sleep late, throw the frisbee around, maybe go on a picnic, play tennis, and watch a few movies. I can't wait!!

Tuesday was my first day of OB clinicals. I got to watch a c-section, so that was pretty cool! That was probably the most exciting moment of the day. The saddest moment was seeing a stillborn baby born after only 20 weeks gestation. I pretty much decided by the end of the day that I would never want to work OB. Here are my reasons:
  1. I wouldn't be able to deal with sad situations like stillborns or miscarriages.
  2. There are too many dysfunctional family situations in OB. I pictured it as being all happily married moms and dads...but in reality, you see more women who aren't married, women in the middle of divorce, teenagers, and all sorts of other situations. It's just depressing to see babies born into bad situations like that.
  3. There are so many ethical issues like abortion, IVF, surrogate mothers, etc. I'd rather just not have to deal with those on a regular basis.
Travis had one test today, and he has a couple of tests next week. I've also got 3 tests coming up before spring break. We'll both be busy bees until then!
